We woke this morning to an unseasonable downpour, which has brought with it equally unseasonably cool weather – I’ve even got the balcony door open and the aircon off!*
The closest registered Hottest 100 listening party is 700 kms away in Pyin Oo Lwin.
Well at least the closest one in the same country, and I’m not willing to travel internationally/brave the fractious Thai-Myanmar border region just to hang out with boozy Aussies listening to the radio.
So I’m rocking out by myself in our lounge room, streaming the countdown (thanks technology!), following the #Proudest100 companion countdown, and being ‘witty’ on Twitter.
Thus far, as is fitting for someone in their thirties, I’m alternating between “I’ve never heard this song” and “who voted for this?”. But it’s good fun. Although due to the time difference it did start at 7:30am, so my solo lounge room party will be very light on the liquid refreshments for a good portion of the countdown.
And there’s been some interesting, challenging, and surprising commentary on the significance of the day to indigenous Australians, and how much (or how little) we think about what it means to the rest of us.
For now I’ll leave you with FDOTM over at the Guardian:
*To be fair though, we haven’t really been using the aircon much – we have to have somewhere to go when the real heat starts…
Once I was a school student, I wondered just how one should
handle this matter but I’d constantly encounter
some funny answers: proceed Google it or ask a friend.
What if my friends don’t have enough knowledge or expertise to assist
me? What when I googled it multiple times and could not locate the answer?
That is when articles like this you can provide proper advice on the situation.
Yet again, thank you for the job!
