It’s like a jungle out there.

It makes me wonder how to keep from going under.

And by “going under” I mean “falling down”, and by “keep from” I mean “is happening to”.

One of the completely foreseeable side effects of rainy season is an acceleration in plant growth around the place. This is very impressive when it comes to the sudden increase in lush green-ness everywhere, and quite scary when it comes to the sudden increase in slippery moss/slime coating all of the footpaths. Particularly when said footpaths are next to giant open drain-sewers. Thankfully I have only fallen completely over once, but it did mean I ended up with green slime everywhere (and it was only the very beginning of my journey).

Weirdly it actually reminds me quite a lot of Vancouver, only much hotter. And with more open drain-sewers.

Today I present a long overdue photo essay on the verdant streets of Yangon in rainy season.

This is a footpath. On which people walk. And which people would prefer not to fall down on/because of.

This has nothing to do with plants or rainy season, it just seems like a really unsafe ladder.

I swear that dark blob in the middle is a turtle - it was happily turtling along until I turned around to take a photo.
